The Granary Estates Wedding Photographer

Abi & Robbie // The Granary Estates

I loved being a Granary Estates Wedding Photographer for Abi and Robbie! Located on the Cambridgeshire/Suffolk border, The Granary Estates is one of those special wedding venues that ticks all the boxes for fun-loving couples. It just so happens that Abi and Robbie are two of the most fun people I have ever met! Read all about them and their brilliant, vibrant wedding as you scroll through a few of their wedding highlights below.

How did you guys meet?
We met whilst working together at a media company in Old Street, London. We had actually been working at the company for 2 years before we officially met – prior to then I just knew Abi as the girl with the big, loud laugh which travelled across the office!

Tell me a bit about yourselves
Robbie has lived in London for the last decade but is a country boy at heart and was born near Norwich, Norfolk. Abi is from Durban, South Africa but moved to England at the age of 14 – she still hasn’t shaken the accent yet though!

We both have a love for travelling, so we decided that we would both quit our jobs, take a year off, and embark on a ‘mega-moon’ after our wedding.
Over the year, we worked our way through most of South America, some of Central America, South East Asia, before finishing up in Australia. We feel so fortunate to have experienced many amazing cultures, see Wonders of the World such as Machu Picchu and the Iguazu Falls, and enjoy some incredible local food (and wine of course)!

Music festivals are another one of our favourite things to do and we actually met Winston at a small festival called Lubstock about 5 years ago. Little did we know he would be our wedding photographer one day!

How did the proposal go down?
It was a complete surprise and happened on Abi’s 30th birthday. There was a big family party on the Friday and there was excitement as some of the family had a suspicion the proposal was happening that weekend! We then stayed at Dean Street Townhouse in Soho for a few days, which was full of eating and drinking, before the question was popped! We then suitably celebrated by doing more eating and drinking!

How did you choose your wedding venue?
We live together in London, but our parents both live in Norfolk now, so we wanted to find a venue that would be a middle ground and easy to reach for all our guests.
We visited a few venues, but as soon as we saw the Granary Estates we knew it was perfect for us. We were looking for a converted barn and the layout with the courtyard made it the ideal social venue we were after. It also allowed us to host both the ceremony and reception in the same place, and there were beautiful cottages on site for the bride and groom parties to stay. This made it very convenient for Winston to see us both in the morning of the wedding day and get some amazing pictures.

What sort of experience did you want your guests to have?
We wanted our guests to really enjoy the day, so we tried to make it a relaxed, party vibe. The wedding was during the summer, so we went with a ‘Pop of Colour’ theme and this certainly made it a very vibrant wedding!
We also discussed this theme with our suppliers for styling (Hall & Co) and flowers (Clare Jones) and they did an incredible job bringing the venue to life.

What was your best decision during the wedding planning?
Looking back, we are so happy that we chose a venue that included support with the wedding planning and a team on the day. At no point in the day were we stressed and this was down to all the effort being done behind the scenes.

What was the hardest decision?
The table plan! We had 120 guests and a lot of big personalities!

What were your favourite memories of the day?
The ceremony was beautiful, with Abi’s uncle singing and Robbie’s grandma doing a speech. Having all of our family and friends all together at once was very special, as people had travelled from all over the world to be there.

What advice would you have for any couples planning their wedding?
This day is for you, so don’t worry about all the guests!
Take a few moments on the day to just take it all in and enjoy it.
Make sure you choose Winston as your photographer! We are over the moon with our photos, everything was captured perfectly. We have had so many compliments about the photos from our guests and we look at them all the time.

“If we could give Winston 10 stars we would – we can’t recommend him highly enough. The service we received pre, during and post wedding was absolutely incredible. It’s been 8 months since our wedding and our guests are still talking about how fantastic the photos are and how well he captured our day. Winston is not only really professional but a genuinely nice guy and an absolute pleasure to work with. He provided all the support we needed throughout, and on the day of our wedding was very unobtrusive. If you are thinking of choosing Winston as your wedding photographer don’t think twice, he was one of the best decisions we made.”
