Dörte & Tom actually live in New York but wanted to come home to celebrate their wedding with friends and family. Well home for Tom that is, Dörte’s family travelled across from Germany but at least it was the same continent! Suffolk is a quaint English gem of county that gets little attention from tourists much to the joy (I presume) of the locals who live surrounded by quiet and beautiful countryside. This stunner of a wedding took place at the home Tom grew up in, in the tiny village of Parham near Woodbridge. His family created a truly lovely wedding wonderland in their backgarden complete with marquee and traditional English fete games. It was a super relaxed and fun day.
I met Tom and his groomsmen first of all in a nearby house. They looked super sharp in their bow ties and had the foresight to order ones which were pre-tied! Steadying their nerves with a midday beer, they were in good spirits and keen to get on with the celebrations. I popped along to see the girls next to find Dörte looking absolutely stunning. We took some shots of her and her bridesmaids outside too before they hid from the guests who were due to arrive any second. Unfortunately the amazing sun we were experiencing at first was short lived. Dark clouds quickly came over and unleashed torrential rain as the guests arrived and ran for the cover of the marquee! Fortunately it was short lived and added a bit of excitement to the proceedings! Everyone took it in good spirits, even the poor caterer who slipped sending her tray of sandwiches flying!
Friends and family helped wipe down the chairs as the rain ended and the sun started to appear again. The rain never came back, instead it was back to glorious sunshine for the rest of the day! I was particularly impressed by the best man. Most worry about their speech, this best man however also conducted the ceremony and did a great job.
Following the confetti fun, guests were free to enjoy drinks and the garden games. We also took some group shots before the speeches and then evening entertainment from awesome covers band Arizona Sky. They were superb and had everyone dancing all night long. After the first dance the bride and groom went for a walk with me to take some photographs of just the two of them. The light was stunning – a wedding photographer’s dream!
A sparkler exit ended an incredible day. Thank you Dörte & Tom for inviting me to be your Suffolk garden wedding photographer! It was a real privilege and a whole lot of fun. Here are some of my favourite images from the day…
