This was my first Christmas Wedding. Well it was the day after Boxing Day to be precise and it was a predictably nippy start to the day. However the sun was out giving the frost a brilliant twinkle and remained shining for the entire day. This was made even more incredible given that surrounding York and throughout most of the country snow was falling! I was really honoured to be asked to be Rich and Nic’s York Wedding Photographer. Rich is a friend with whom I had previously worked as a Primary School teacher for a few years, so it was especially enjoyable and humbling being such an important part of their wedding. Rich and Nic asked me to photograph Rich getting ready whilst Nic had a friend photograph her as she prepared herself for the big day. It was fun hanging out with Rich again and his best man Adam at the Marriott Hotel, the venue for their reception. He seemed remarkably calm although I suspected that perhaps he was hiding his nerves well! Nic and Rich were married at St Paul’s Church, Holgate in York. It was a lovely church with a very welcoming vicar and they had decorated it beautifully, fully embracing the Christmas theme. In fact the songs were Christmas carols with a swing feel thanks to the fantastic band. Tea and coffee was served after the service which gave everyone a chance to wish the bride and groom well whilst stuffing their faces with lovely homemade cakes! Back at the Marriott Hotel, Rich, Nic and I took a walk around the grounds stopping every now and then for a minute to take a couple of photos. We got through the formal group shots in super speedy time so we could all get back in and enjoy a glass or two of bubbly in the warmth. The evening was awesome and I had lots of fun shooting some long exposure dance floor shots. It was a superb Christmas Wedding. Thanks Nic and Rich for choosing me to be your York Wedding Photographer. I loved it.
